The piece “Versatile Ego” deals with misogyny. The different dynamics of house dance, locking, popping, hip hop and breaking translate misogynistic stories, images and thoughts into a language of movement that is expressed not only by the individual performers, but above all in the interplay of the group. The play aims to address and contextualise the origins and consequences of misogyny, but also the disregard for it in public discourse. Three dancers embody both perpetrator and victim roles in dynamic sequences and represent different power structures in their positions. Together with the performers, the audience experiences a process of pain, helplessness and ignorance and is encouraged to reflect on their own role in society and its effects. The piece is accompanied by various hip-hop and house beats, abstract rhythms and the performers’ voices.
