Everyone has secrets. Something that only the best friend knows, but the partner must never know. Something that the boss doesn’t even suspect, the tax office hopefully never finds out about, and would shock mum. A family secret that travels from mouth to ear. Dark secrets, sweet secrets, embarrassing secrets – people seem to be wise enough to keep something to themselves. Secrets are the social glue.
But we are now in the midst of the age of the digital revolution: Smart objects are collecting information, storing and linking it with other data, and drawing conclusions from it. We are becoming more and more transparent. How much secrecy do we need? What do we prefer not to know? Why do we need secrets and what do they do to us?
